Civilian Career: Food Industry with emphasis on Chocolate
With a Business Degree (and tuition covered by the GI Bill), Steven set out to get a taste of the business world, after leaving military service. That first taste was at Hershey Foods in Hershey, PA where he joined a small cadre of MBA's as they developed a formal Marketing program. Working with the ad agency Ogilvy & Mather they launched the first advertising campaign for Hershey Chocolate Bars and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Steven was given the responsibility for the Reese's product line as well as Hershey Kisses.
After a number of years, he moved to Peter Paul in Connecticut where he managed the Mounds and Almond Joy brands. This was followed by Marketing positions at Cadbury USA and Cornnuts Inc, a snack food company in California.
Building on the success of his work in the food industry, he took the entrepreneurial route and started his own business, Sweet Liaison Chocolates, featuring Belgian style chocolates. Here he was able to combine his Marketing skills with hands-on product development and production. He later sold this business to another firm. His love of chocolate continues to this day as he prepares small batches of chocolate truffles around the winter holidays as gifts for friends and family.
